Clinched!

Gnash
After two years missing the playoffs, who would have thought the Nashville Predators would be the second NHL team to clinch a spot in the 2015 playoffs?!  The Preds organization invited Smashville to greet the team that the airport, and the fans showed up in force to line the road outside the entrance and give the team some love.

The Ducks may have clinched today, too….but we’re SO much prettier.  🙂

Way to go, guys – you deserve it!  Just don’t forget to beat those Flames tomorrow night.

We’ve got our playoff tickets, do you??  GO PREDS!!

Move Over, Carter Hutton!

Christina Shea
Just over a year ago, we had this crazy idea to start a blog to talk hockey with other girls. Little did we know it would lead us to build friendships with people all over the country; in particular, one badass Preds fan from L.A. named Christina. This girl, y’all. She is tough, brave, sweet, humble, and will bake you the best cake you’ve ever had in your life….just all-around amazing. When we found out that her bucket list included learning how to play goalie, we knew we had to pull some strings to get her some time on the ice.
Jen Collage
About that bucket list.  Some people receive a terrifying diagnosis and it prevents them from living at all, but Christina used her diagnosis as motivation to visit friends old and new, see new places, and try things that most of us would never be brave enough to even attempt.  Her bucket list has taken her to Europe where she saw old friends, to Canada where she rode a bus cross-country to follow the Predators, and to Nashville where she saw some hockey and got to try out the ice at the Ford Ice Center (FIC).  She also got to have her dream wedding – complete with hockey-themed engagement photos!

Our friend, Craig MacDonald, Hockey Director at the Ford Ice Center (remember that time?) volunteered to give her a taste of the goalie life, which meant she got to spend some time in-goal for the first time ever.  Even though she was a little shaky on her skates, off she went to run through skating drills and field some pucks.
Collage
Oh, and did we mention that she has her own goalie mask? She entered the “Design Pekka’s Mask” contest sponsored by the Nashville Predators. Though her design wasn’t chosen, her husband and a couple other amazing people had her design turned into the real deal, which she wore for her lesson.

Christina and Craig

First time on the ice and you make a save double stack style a-la Dominik Hasek?? Told ya she’s awesome.

Really ya’ll – you’ve got to meet this girl.

Check out Christina’s blog here: https://hockeytonk.wordpress.com

*Thanks to Mary Davis for sharing her video.  We were way too excited to focus on filming!

Huge shout out to Craig MacDonald and the Ford Ice Center for helping Christina check one more item off her bucket list! If you’re interested in hockey or figure skating, check out www.fordicecenter.com for scheduling and information.

All We Want For Christmas

Dear Santa,

We already sent you our Christmas list full of all kinds of glittery trinkets, expensive electronics, and new clothes.  We do realize that the holiday season isn’t all about material trappings, so here are a few more things we’d like to add to our wish list:

Prust
Brandon Prust in a suit.  Whoo boy, nothing like a little man candy, right Santa?

Landeskog
Gabriel Landeskog’s smile.  Seriously – that and a puppy can cure the evils of the world!  The man should be cast as the next Disney prince.

Bernier
Speaking of puppies, we’ll also take Jonathan Bernier’s puppy-dog eyes.

Neal
Nealer’s hair is on the list, of course!  Not to mention his goal scoring ability.

HIggins
Chris Higgins’ abs.  Really Santa – we’ve been extra good this year!  Please!

Lundqvist
KING OF KINGS!!!!!!  HALLELUJAH!

Josi
We’d also like Roman Josi’s jawline, eyes, and you know – everything.

Sharp
And Patrick Sharp in that coat!  Or celebrating a goal.  Or posing in a suit.  Or just relaxing in nothing but shorts.  Or all of those things.

Rinne
Of course, we also want a happy, healthy Pekka!  Can we get a gift card for a Vezina???

Stanley
Most of all, Santa, we’d really like to have this silver cup; you know, for parties and stuff.

Welcome to Nashville, Y’all!

The population of Nashville increased yesterday when David Poile brought some more offensive power to Nashville.  We’re not going to comment on what we think about anyone until we see them at camp, but we will offer up some tips about life in this great city (and a few warnings) for Mike Ribeiro and Derek Roy, as well as James Neal, the Laviolette’s, the McCarthy’s, and all of our new friends.

James

Hi James.

Derek

And Derek.

Mike

 And Mike.

Life here is slower.  Be sure to leave an extra half hour to do anything.  If Nolensville Road or the grocery store are involved, leave an extra 45 minutes.  It’s too hot to rush anywhere here, and everyone likes to talk.  Slowly.  Talk back!  You’ll inevitably wind up with a new recipe or two.

You need jeans.  And lots of them.  We wear jeans everywhere.

There is music everywhere you turn – and it isn’t all country.  You’ve got to go visit Third Man Records and check out Jack White’s collection!  Go to Robert’s Western World for Sunday lunch and get your fill of traditional country.  Be sure to see a show at the Ryman, because everything sounds better in the Mother Church.  If you’re lucky, you’ll get a Hatch Show Print!  Get out and sing some karaoke – it’ll remind you that not everyone here is musically talented.

Speaking of Robert’s, be sure to order the cheeseburger.  It is one of the best in town!  You can also find great burgers at Burger Republic if you’re hungry after practice one day. It’s close to the new Ford Ice Center, and they have been voted the Best Burger in Nashville for a couple years running.

Roberts

Or you can get a hot dog at I Dream of Weenie in East Nashville.  (*giggle* – weenie.)

IDoW

We do have healthier food options, but they’re a little harder to find.  Don’t be surprised if you order a veggie plate and everything is fried.  We have a ton of international restaurants, so get adventurous and try some of those!  Our favorite is Thai Papaya

Our fanbase may be a little smaller than you’re used to, but we’re passionate and LOUD!  We will love you and you’ll know it.  We won’t bother you when you’re out and about though, so feel free to leave the house.

But don’t leave the house in a cowboy hat.  Everyone will think you’re a tourist.

Hot Fun in the Summertime

Happy mid-summer everyone!  What did you do for vacation?  We went to Bonnaroo for the first time.  (Jack White, everyone.  Jack.  White.)

I don’t know about you, but we’re missing hockey something fierce right now.  Sure, prospect camp is going on and we’re all looking forward to checking out the new guys in the scrimmage.  It just isn’t the same as seeing our boys night after night.

So let’s take a break, grab a drink, and see what everyone has been doing this summer!  (Well, not everyone.  We can’t stalk THAT hard.)

Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood went to Haiti, because they’re awesome like that.

FisherHaiti

How can anyone resist that smile?

Unfortunately, he’ll have plenty of time to think about it as he recovers from a nasty Achilles injury.

FisherBoot

Colin Wilson has been paddle boarding and showing us all that he’s been doing some serious work on his back muscles.
Colin

Victor Bartley has been getting some fresh air.
Bartley

James Neal took a trip to Hawaii before packing up to move here.  Suns out, guns out!
Neal

Eric Nystrom has been working out like crazy and inspiring us to push a little harder at the gym.
Nystrom

We’d watch him run any day.

Of course, he and Rich Clune are training together.
NystromClune

Speaking of Rich Clune, he’s been busy playing shirtless guitar and making us believe God might be a woman.
CluneGuitar

He’s also been working with SummerSkates marketing sandals.
Summerskates

If you haven’t tried these, you’ve got to get a pair!

Victor Stalberg continues to prove that the Swedes are amazingly beautiful.
Stalberg

He’s also been working on his synchronized swimming.

(We have no clue why this isn’t embedding right.  Any thoughts?)

Pekka has been hiding from the press, but was the star of this article comparing him to a handsome young swan.  Amazing.  And we don’t disagree.

And Roman Josi has been busy doing everything, and making it look good.
Josi3
Suddenly I’m a tennis fan.

Josi2

He’s delicious in a tux, but is it really fair to stand that close to the groom?  Hope the bride didn’t change her mind!

Josi1

And he can fly a plane?!?!?!  Give the rest of the men in the world a chance, Roman!

Oh Captain, Our Captain!

The Thinker
As soon as the final whistle blew in the New York Rangers first round playoff series win over the Philadelphia Flyers, Twitter lit up with Flyers fans bemoaning the fact that if they had Shea Weber, they would have won the series, and probably the Cup. They pulled their hair and cried to the heavens asking, “WHY GOD?? WHY DID YOU LET NASHVILLE MATCH THAT OFFER SHEET??”

Who would have thought the Nashville Predators had enough dough to cover the $110 million offer sheet Shea signed with the Flyers? For Nashville, it was a must-do. He is THE Captain. He is the face of the team. And, bless his heart, he gets to stay in Nashville and work harder than any defenseman should ever have to work.

We have been remiss in not posting an entry in tribute to Shea and his awesomeness thus-far. As he has yet again been named a Norris Trophy finalist, we thought it was about damn time we stand tall and proclaim our Shea-love to the world.

I remember the first time I heard the CRACK from the blast of Shea Weber’s slapshot. Whether it bangs against the glass, goes in the net, or through it, when Shea pulls back to unleash the fury, the crowd leans forward on the edge of their seats and braces for shock and awe.

Shea Stick Bend
The raw power behind Shea’s shot is terrifying and exciting all at the same time. His goal celebration his nothing short of beastmode, and on the flipside…we have dimples. Sweet heaven, the dimples.

Shea GoalNHL Awards Red Carpet
Everyone knows that Shea is the foundation of the Predators team. Not only is he the Captain, but the dude averaged almost 27 minutes (!!) of ice time per game in 2013-14. He also registered 23 goals this season; the most of any defenseman. On top of that, he holds the franchise record for Preds defensemen with his 56 points. With Pekka Rinne out for half of the season, Shea was left to bear the burden of defending the goal, which was a big job. Huge. Unfortunately, the Predators record this season wasn’t pretty, but at least he’s getting some recognition as a Norris Finalist.

Shea Weber, Martin Erat, Ryan Suter
He’s so good, he can even score a goal from the third deck! That’s the all-you-can-eat/drink section. Wonder if he had a beer to celebrate?

He played for the Canadian Olympic team in Sochi this year, and brought home yet another gold medal. We got the chance to get up close and personal with his jersey and medal. We’re just sad he wasn’t in it at the time!

Gold Medal0211-oly-fitz-hockey

Besides being a badass defenseman, Shea has a caring heart. Together with Pekka Rinne, he started the 365 Pediatric Cancer Fund, which allows children with cancer and their families to attend games in a suite. *dabs tear* SUCH a sweet guy!

But he obviously has a lighter side, too. Killing it disco style with Joel Ward and Kevin Klein.

And loves animals (his dog, Dug, for sure).

And babies.

And Flyers fans. 🙂

But there’s a reason people “Fear the Beard”, because nobody wants to look up and see that thing coming at them down the ice. Good lord, I’d turn and run for the hills.

Below, David Poile looks on with pride at the grouping of hotties he has assembled in Nashville. You can take a break for panting and drooling here. God bless their mothers. And whoever made those suits.

We love ya, Shea. If you weren’t here, we’d probably just pack it in and try to learn to love a different sport. And hey; if you decide to give up hockey, you might have a future in dancing.
